Grado Headphone The Hemp Limited Edition

$495.00

From Limited Release to Lasting Classic

Originally introduced in 2020 as a limited edition, the Hemp began as an experiment in materials and tone. What started as a playful exploration quickly developed a following among listeners who appreciated its weight, warmth, and rhythmic drive. The response secured the Hemp’s place as a permanent model within the lineup.

44mm X2 Dynamic Driver

The Hemp uses Grado’s 44mm X2 dynamic driver built around a Mylar diaphragm, copper voice coil, and rare earth magnetic system. The tuning favors a fuller and more grounded presentation.

Signature Silver Headband Assembly

The Hemp incorporates Grado’s Signature Silver headband assembly sharing the same engineering foundation as the Signature Gold system.

A leather headstrap with contrasting white stitching provides comfort while the internal steel spring band allows listeners to easily adjust clamping pressure.

Signature Silver Cable

The Hemp incorporates Grado’s Signature Silver headband assembly sharing the same engineering foundation as the Signature Gold system. A leather headstrap with contrasting white stitching provides comfort while the internal steel spring band allows listeners to easily adjust clamping pressure.

F Cushions

The Hemp ships standard with Grado F cushions, bringing the driver closer to the ear and reinforcing its immediate and engaging presentation.

Like all Grado cushions, they also act as a tuning element, allowing listeners to personalize their headphones by experimenting with different cushion styles to subtly adjust tonal balance and presentation.

Bi-Wood Housing — Hemp & Maple

The Hemp features a bi-wood housing constructed from hempwood and maple.

Hempwood contributes natural damping and tonal warmth helping shape a presentation that feels grounded and physical while maple provides structural stability at the driver interface.

Beyond its acoustic qualities hempwood also reflects a more sustainable approach to material sourcing as hemp fibers can be cultivated and replenished far more rapidly than traditional hardwoods.

To be blunt…

Into the Unknown

In our never-ending pursuit to experiment with all types of woods and materials, we had the opportunity to build with hemp. We weren't sure how these hemphones would turn out, but to everyone’s surprise it quickly became a favorite passed around Grado. To be blunt, this is one of the best sounding Limited Editions we've built.

The Sound of Wood.

Built from Hemp

The highly compressed hemp creates a damping effect between their fibers. This produces a fuller sound, comprised of a noticeable low end and a top end that extends smoothly to its limits. The hemp may be doing the heavy lifting, but the hemphone is a joint effort. We built maple into the housing to help balance out the sound, and bring out the sonic properties that we’ve heard maple produce.

Specifically Tuned.

Driver Focused

The Grado drivers built into the hemp housings had to be specifically tuned for a material we’ve never worked with before. Being paired with maple gave us some foresight, but only through trial-and-error could we get the speakers to sound how we wanted, and bring out the potential of the hemp.

Signature Sound.

High Expectations

The last seven decades has given us time to perfect our sound, letting the headphones reveal new notes and details in songs heard hundreds of times. The Hemp Headphone is a slow burn, constantly getting better with every listen. As we make sure with every headphone we build our Grado signature sound is ever-present, working in tandem with the hemp and maple.

With Love.

Hand-Built in Brooklyn

Each Hemp Headphone is hand-built by our team in Brooklyn. Fine rolled for every genre of music, hemp and maple work together for the first time to bring a new level of vibrancy to our Limited Editions. We started building on a kitchen table in 1953, and every experience since then has led to the creation of The Hemp Headphone.
